SHANGLA: The district police has asked the traders, school heads and government officials to install close circuit television cameras (CCTV) at their respective places in order to improve security.

The directives were issued by Assistant Superintend of Police Shangla, Riaz Khan, while speaking at a liaison committee meeting at Karora here the other day. Elders, local government representatives and youngsters were present on the occasion.

The police officer stressed that people’s cooperation was a must in eradicating crime, and urged the elders to extend assistance to the police in curbing the underage and unlicensed driving, particularly biking, in view of the many fatal accidents occurred in the district over the past weeks. He directed the traffic police to conduct forceful action against underage drivers and bikers.

Riaz Khan said under the National Action Plan people were obligated to keep an eye on suspicious elements in their surroundings and inform police on time. He said that locals should have full information about the people before renting them houses and shops. He asked the local government representatives and elders to resolve petty issues under the umbrella of the liaison committee.

WORKERS JOIN PTI: Scores of political activists belonging to PML-N, ANP and other parties announced joining the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf at Shakolai in Puran tehsil here the other day.

They announced their decision at a meeting where special assistant to chief minister Haji Abdul Munim was the chief guest. PTI’s district council member Akbar Hussain, Tajim Khan, Abdul Mula and a large number of PTI workers were present.

MPA Munim said that PTI’s popularity was growing in the district due to its ‘pragmatic’ policies. He claimed that because of the good performance people of other political parties were joining PTI.

Mr Munim alleged that local PML-N MNA had been spending the budget meant for Shangla on other districts to gain political clout.

He hinted that the provincial government would launch some new development projects in the district soon.
