Family hospitalised due to food poisoning

RAWALPINDI: A family of five, including an 18-month-old child, were hospitalised due to food poisoning on Sunday, police said.

The family was initially taken to a private clinic near Adiala Jail, from where they were shifted to Benazir Bhutto Hospital. The doctors said the condition of the child and an elderly man were stated to be critical as they had yet to regain consciousness.

An initial police report suggested that the family, which resides in the Thatha village of Rawat, was shifted to the hospital after they fell ill soon after breakfast. The police said it was too early to determine what caused the food poisoning until the chemical examiner’s report is received.

The family members admitted to the hospital have been identified as Fuqraat Bibi, 50, Bilal Yaqoob, 17, 18-month-old Ahmed Umar, Ayesha, 23, and Mohammad Yaqoob, 75.

In a separate incident, a teenager was shot dead, allegedly by a friend, in Mohanpura on Sunday, police said.

Dhoke Ratta resident Hassan Hafeez, 17, was shot dead, allegedly by a friend who invited him to his home and then disappeared. The investigating officer said the suspect called Hafeez to his home in Mohanpura while his family was visiting relatives on Sunday.
