World-class Karachi?

WITH reference to your editorial “World-class Karachi?” (Nov 14). Once declared the “cleanest city in the world” in 1959, it became the “dirtiest city in the world”.

The tragedy of Karachi is that its affairs are being managed by those who have no interest in improving its lot. The Sindh government is supposed to spend only Rs5,000 per capita on Karachi (compared to Rs15,000 per capita for Larkana and other cities).

The only solution is to allow the elected representatives of Karachi to manage it, but for obvious reasons, the PPP government is reluctant to do so. One of these days the bubble will burst and the entire population will be forced to come out on the streets demanding its rights.
