Bank borrowing falls
The government raised Rs90.22bn from the auction of Market Treasury Bills of various tenors held last Thursday, missing its target of Rs200.00bn and also falling short of the received amount of Rs182.85bn.
Of the total, 3 month T-bill’s fetched Rs68.95bn at a cut off yield of 5.90pc, followed by 12 month T-bill’s of Rs20.30bn at 5.92pc and 6 month T-bill’s of Rs971.40m at 5.91pc.
The central bank had received total bids worth Rs182.85bn; 3 month Rs121.03bn, 6 month Rs40.10bn and 6 month T-bill Rs21.72bn.

The government received Rs75.02bn total bids at the auction of Pakistan Investment Bonds of various tenors held on Oct 19. Three year PIB attracted Rs62.98bn, followed by five year PIB with Rs10.01bn and ten year PIBs Rs2.03bn.
All bids were rejected.
According to the weekly statement of position of all scheduled banks for the week ended Oct 14, deposits and other accounts of all scheduled banks stood at Rs10,301.89bn after a 0.13pc increase over the preceding week’s figure of Rs10,288.44bn. Compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs9,013.41bn, the current week’s figure was higher by 14.30pc.
Deposits and other accounts of all commercial banks stood at Rs10,244.24bn against preceding week’s deposits of Rs10,229.85bn, showing an increase of 0.14pc.
Total assets of all scheduled banks stood at Rs14,110.75bn, lower by 0.49pc over preceding week’s figure of Rs14,179.74bn. Current week’s figure is higher by 9.80pc compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs12,852.40bn.
Total assets of all commercial banks stood at Rs13,881.06bn, lower by 0.50pc over previous week’s figure of Rs13,949.46bn, while total assets of specialised banks at Rs229.68bn, were smaller 0.26pc over the previous week’s Rs230.27bn.
Borrowings by all scheduled banks decreased in the week under review. It fell by 5.02pc to Rs1,787.91bn against previous week’s Rs1,882.42bn. Compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs1,885.73bn, current week’s figure is lower by 5.18pc.
Borrowings by commercial banks in the week at Rs1,709.08bn were lower by 5.28pc against previous week’s Rs1,804.43bn.
