Three criminals arrested; loot recovered

SAHIWAL: Three suspected criminals from the Lohri gang, including ringleader Tanveer, were arrested by Shahkot police late on Sunday.

This was stated by District Police Officer Atif Ikram while talking to the media in his office on Monday.

He claimed Tanveer alias Lohri had been involved in murder, dacoity, robbery and motorcycles/mobiles snatching for three years. Around 20 first information reports had been registered against the gang.

A three-member team headed by Chichawatni Deputy Superintendent of Police Farrukh Javed and Shahkot Station House Officer Asif Sarwar was formed to track down the gang.

Police arrested Allah Dita, Nawaz and Tanveer Lohri and recovered four motorcycles, two pistols, jewellery and Rs200,000 in cash.

BEATEN UP: A recovery team of the Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) was allegedly roughed up by villagers in 80/D village, Pakpattan tehsil.

A three-member Mepco team went to Ahmed Ali’s farmhouse for electricity bill recovery. On refusal, the lineman removed the meter. An infuriated Ali called his family members who demanded the Mepco team reinstall the meter, but the lineman did not budge.

Witnesses said Ali exchanged harsh words with the team and later slapped Lineman Nazir. This led to a scuffle and the villagers beat up the Mepco recovery team.

A criminal case was registered with Saddar police on Sub-Divisional Officer Syed Faisal Shah’s report against three men.

EYE TREATMENT: Around 99 patients received free eye treatment at a camp organised by a local philanthropic organisation named Al-Mustafa Welfare Trust, Pakpattan.

The camp was organised at a private hospital. Prof Mohsin Joya, chairman of the local branch, said all patients were operated upon for free and eyesight of all of them was restored.
