MANSEHRA: The police have arrested a man for injuring wife in Rasheeda area of Oghi in an honour-related crime.

Oghi police station SHO Mohammad Javed told reporters on Saturday that the man stabbed the wife’s genitals with a dragger after seeing her speak to the alleged paramour over the cellphone.

He added that the man took the wife to the Ayub Medical Complex Abbottabad after she fell unconscious due to the profuse bleeding.

“The suspect told doctors a broken mirror had accidently pierced into the wife’s genitals. However, he was handed over to the police on suspicion” he said.

The SHO said the police registered a case under PPC sections 324 and 201 against the suspect on the complaint of the woman’s father.

He said the suspect had confessed to injuring wife suspecting she’d an affair with a man.

“The suspect insists he wanted to divorce wife after seeing her speak to ‘paramour’ over cellphone but hurt her after she sought forgiveness,” he said.

The SHO said the woman’s condition was out of danger.

He said the police had seized the dragger used in the crime. The couple had shifted to Oghi from Torghar district of late.

ACTION: The district government has decided to take legal action against the revenue employees (patwaris) over corruption and absenteeism.

“We often visit patwar offices in the district. The patwaris found to be involved in seeking bribes from land owners on sell and purchase would be taken to justice under strict relevant laws,” chairman of district council committee on revenue Malik Farooq told reporters here on Saturday.

Mr. Farooq said mostly, patwaris absented themselves from duty to the inconvenience of visitors but he wanted to make it clear that the PML-N district government won’t tolerate such a conduct and would crack down on absenteeism.

“We are here to serve the people and therefore, we will take legal action against those creating hurdles to it,” he said.

The committee chairman said for the first time, the district government had made a mechanism to examine the performance of patwaris for the benefit of the people. He said the district nazim wanted effective resolution of the people’s complaints against revenue officials.
