Baker, salesman shot dead in Kharadar

KARACHI: A bakery owner and a salesman were shot dead by suspected robbers in Kharadar on Thursday morning while one of the suspects was wounded and arrested when the bakery owner opened fire on them, officials said.

The Kharadar police said robbers shot dead Kausar Bakery owner Mumtaz Ghani, 55, and his salesman Akhter, 60, at around 6.15am.

One of the suspects, identified as Abdullah was also wounded in a fire carried out by the bakery owner.

Abdullah was later on arrested in the Civil Hospital Karachi by the police.

City SSP Faizullah Korejo said when the robbers were fleeing after snatching cash and other valuables from the bakery, Mumtaz took out his pistol and opened fire on them resulting in bullet injuries to one suspect.

The suspects opened fire on them and gunned down Akhter, who was a supplier of the bakery, while the bakery owner succumbed to his wounds during treatment at the CHK.

The suspects managed to escape on a motorbike.

Later on, Abdullah was brought by her relative woman for treatment at the CHK, where they told the medico-legal section officer that he was shot at and wounded by robbers.

The police probed into the incident and concluded that no such robbery took place.

The police believed that Abdullah was the “actual culprit” who killed two persons at the Kausar Bakery.

The police claimed that the held suspect was a gangster in Lyari.

The Kharadar police admitted that this bakery had been looted by robbers in recent past.
