Achakzai calls for need-oriented policies

QUETTA: Governor Muhammad Khan Achakzai has underlined the need for evolving polices in accordance with the need of people and increasing the capacity of government officials and strengthening institutions for good governance.

Talking to officials from the National Institute of Management Lahore who called on him at Governor House Quetta on Monday, the Governor said: “Government officers should fulfil their responsibility of making national institutions stronger and improving governance in the country.

“Government servants need to utilise their skills for the development of the country,” he said, adding that it was the responsibility of the government officials to play the important role of bringing about progress and prosperity in the country.

Referring to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) from Gwadar to Kashgar, he said that China was making the largest investment in the history of the entire region outside of its country by implementing the CPEC. The CPEC, he added, would bring a positive change in the region on account of economic activities. “The CPEC is going to become a game-changer for the region,” he said.

Responding to a question, Governor Achakzai said that Balochistan had borders with Iran, Afghanistan and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) where border management and maintenance of discipline was a difficult task, adding that nonetheless, security situation on Balochistan’s borders was satisfactory.

Balochistan, he said, had a history of sense of deprivation and backwardness and added that stakeholders would have to play their role in removing that. “All stakeholders will have to jointly remove the sense of deprivation and backwardness from Balochistan,” he said.

Those present included Additional Chief Secretary Planning and Development, Daud Muhammad Bareach, Additional Secretaries Ishaq Jamali and Tayyab Lehri and Principal Secretary to Governor Balochistan Abdul Jabbar.
