PTI expects no justice in PM’s disqualification reference

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chairman’s adviser Dr Yasmin Rashid says she does not expect that justice will be dispensed in her reference filed for the disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

She had filed the case against the prime minister with the Election Commission of Pakistan for concealing assets and disclosing incorrect details.

During the last hearing, the ECP had asked Nawaz Sharif’s council for the second time to submit a reply of the reference filed against Mr Sharif before Oct 10. The ECP will continue hearing the case on Monday (today).

ECP to continue hearing today

Terming the ECP a PML-N’s “Commission”, she said the PTI did not expect justice in the disqualification reference filed against the prime minister.

She asked that how “princess” Mariam Nawaz, who was dependent of Nawaz Sharif, set-up offshore companies and purchased expensive Mayfair flats in London.

Talking to party workers’ delegations at her office here on Sunday, Dr Yasmin said she had filed a reference against Nawaz Sharif who had contested the election against her in 2013 general elections, after a case of concealing wealth, evading taxes and laundering money abroad was proved through Panama Papers’ Leaks.

“The PTI has put up all efforts that the state institutions should hold Nawaz Sharif accountable but nobody has the courage to proceed,” she regretted.

Dr Yasmin asked how Mariam Nawaz could set-up offshore companies and purchase expensive Mayfair flats in London when Nawaz Sharif had written in his tax returns in 2012 that Mariam was her dependent.

She said dozens of cases were pending against the rulers but no government agency had the guts to proceed against them.

Dr Yasmin said the masses must come out in large number on Islamabad roads on Oct 30 to get rid of monarchism in the country.

As a part of this endeavour, she said, Islamabad would be shut down on Oct 30 and the party would observe a sit-in till Nawaz Sharif and his family be held accountable for their misdeeds.
