Dengue fever claims life of two-year-old Thari girl

MITHI: Two-year-old Gulaba Samoon who was suffering from dengue fever died at the Liaquat University Hospital (LUH), Jamshoro, on Friday. She was referred to the LUH from Tharparkar and was one of the 32 patients who had so far tested positive for the disease, according to official sources.

At least three more people fell victim to the fever in a number of villages of Chhachhro and Islamkot talukas on Friday and were shifted to Hyderabad for further treatment, said the sources.

Tharparkar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zaman Narejo said that many depression areas had filled with rainwater after rains and turned into breeding areas for mosquitoes, which were the main cause of the deadly fever. Efforts were being made to fumigate all such areas to eliminate the mosquitoes, he said.

APP adds: A total of 23 patients of dengue fever had so far been brought from different hospitals of Tharparkar district to the LUH and several other suspected patients had been referred to different hospitals of Karachi and Hyderabad for further treatment, said DHO Tharparkar.

According to sources, Deeplo, Chhachhro and Mithi are the worst affected talukas of Tharpakar, where dengue cases were reported.

Suspected dengue patients Photo Bheel, Roshni Meghwar, Ghazi Samejo, Samina Samoon, Fatima Bajeer, Hidayatullah, Abdul Mannan, Saqib and others are under treatment at Karachi and Hyderabad hospitals.

Thar people have appealed to the authorities concerned to carry out anti-mosquito spray in affected areas to prevent dengue fever outbreak in the district.
