KARACHI: Efforts were being made to get funds from the Sindh government to properly collect and dispose of hundreds and thousands of tons of garbage that has been generated by the city but has not been lifted and disposed of, instead littering the metropolis for years, said deputy mayor Arshad Vohra.

Briefing the media after a meeting of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) finance department on Monday, the deputy mayor said that the city generated over 12,000 tons of garbage daily but the civic agency staffers collected and disposed of only around 4,000 tons daily. The rest — roughly around 8,000 tons a day — remained littered around the city and had not been collected for a long time.

He said that the Sindh government had been approached and efforts were being made to get funds so that a comprehensive operation could be launched to dispose the hundreds and thousands of tons of accumulated garbage so that the city had a cleaner look.
