India ‘suspends’ Dosti bus service

LAHORE: India on Friday suspended the Dosti (friendship) bus service between Lahore and Amritsar citing “unfeasible” conditions, a media report suggests.

The bus plies between Lahore and Amritsar every Tuesday and Friday. It had left the provincial capital in the morning on Friday as per schedule but did not return.

Though no official was available to verify the report it said the Indian authorities did not allow the bus to leave Amritsar, “informing us in writing that the situation in Pakistan is not feasible for plying the bus”.

Five days back, the Indian authorities had requested their Pakistani counterparts in Pakistan Railways and Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation to suspend the Lahore-Delhi and Samjhota Express and Dosti bus, but had withdrawn the decision after an hour.

Similarly, both the services had been suspended in February this year on security concerns due to a protest by the Jatts in Haryana state of India.
