ISLAMABAD: The Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University has assured the Supreme Court that an administrator would soon be appointed for the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) by the syndicate of the university.

In a report submitted to the apex court, Additional Attorney General Aamir Rehman stated that the Board of Governor (BoG) of the university would soon start the process to find a suitable candidate for the post of the executive director Pims having 20 years experience with a postgraduate qualification in the hospital management or an MBA in human resources.

The absence of the head of the capital’s biggest hospital cropped up during a suo motu hearing by a three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, of the allegations of misappropriation in the supply of medicines as well as oxygen and nitrogen gases to the Polyclinic hospital.

The bench, which will resume the proceedings on Friday, had expressed displeasure over the delay in the appointment of the administrator of Pims because of which the institution was being run by professional doctors on an ad hoc basis.

In the report, the university explained that the BoG would be fully empowered to get the development projects of Pims executed through the administrator in a transparent manner.

The new administrator will act as a coordinator between clinicians, professors and the board to collaborate with the vice chancellor of the university to ensure compliance with academic requirements of Pims.

The administrator will also supervise surgical set-ups, budgetary proposals, future policies, quality assurance standards and making appointments and promotions of staff from BS-1 to BS-16 with the approval of the BoG.

Similarly, the administrator will also be responsible for evaluating the performance of all ranks of the administrative cadre and procurement of qualitative equipment for the hospital, the report added.
