TTP suspect shot dead in Orangi Town

KARACHI: A Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan suspect was found shot dead in Orangi Town on Wednesday, police said.

Iqbal Market SHO Iqbal Mehmood told Dawn that 25-year-old Amanullah, who was identified with the help a CNIC found in his pocket, remained associated with the outlawed TTP in the past and might have been murdered by his accomplices over some issue.

Karachi-West Zone SSP (Investigations) Akhtar Farooq said that the police team providing protection to polio workers in the area had received information about the killing on the main road in Raja Tanveer Colony. They rushed to the spot and found him dead. Later, the officer said, they shifted the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy.

The police said the deceased originally hailed from Waziristan.

Sources told Dawn that an official SMG rifle was also found at the crime scene. A spent bullet casing fired from the gun was spotted there, while there were still 21 bullets in its magazine.

In the same Raja Tanveer Colony, the police had seized a Russian rifle near a warehouse one and a half months ago, the sources said.

The godown owner later received an extortion call from someone who demanded money in exchange for the rifle that the police had seized near the warehouse. The police managed to trace the caller with the help of modern technology and identified him as Amanullah, the sources added.
