Dog-bite cases on the rise

KARACHI: With World Rabies Day being observed, figures compiled by the JPMC’s accident and emergency department show that it received some 4,629 patients of animal bites, most of them bitten by dogs, by the end of August this year.

Last year was the worst, said the report, in which the JPMC received 6,590 patients with animal bites.

Experts said up to 30,000 cases of dog bites were being reported in Karachi alone every year and just 50 per cent of the victims receive post-exposure treatment.
