Rs7.6m distributed among scam affectees

MULTAN: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) distributed Rs7.6 million among 24 affectees of the Pak Mushroom Project scam.

The amount has been recovered from an accused involved in the scam.

“During the investigation, it was established that Mian Naveed Aziz, in connivance with Khurram Shahzad and others, lured the general public through advertisements to invest in mushroom packets, promising profits on investment after 40 days,” said an official handout issued here on Tuesday.

It stated that after collecting money from the public, the accused disappeared. After investigation, a reference was filed in the Accountability Court, Multan, on Jan 26, 2015, and during the trial, the accountability court declared accused Khurram Shahzad as a proclaimed offender who was arrested on Dec 17, 2015.

“Thereafter, accused Khurrum Shahzad, at his own free will, submitted an application to surrender his share of liability, through a plea bargain, which was accepted and after approval through the accountability court,” the handout stated.

NAB Multan Director General retired Brig Farooq Nasir Awan distributed the recovered amount among 24 affectees of the Pak Mushroom Project.
