Inmol to get cancer treatment machine

LAHORE: The Punjab government will provide linear accelerator machine to the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Oncology (Inmol) for the treatment of cancer patients.

“The machine is worth Rs250 million,” said CM’s Adviser on Health Salman Rafique while presiding over a meeting at the Civil Secretariat on Saturday.

Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department Special Secretary Dr Sajid Chohan informed the meeting that the linear accelerator machine was being used in beam radiation treatment of cancer patients.

Inmol Director Dr Abu Bakkar said that with induction of new machine in the hospital, the treatment facilities for cancer patients would not only be further enhanced but long waiting list of the patients for their treatment would also be minimised.

Mr Rafique directed the officers of the department and firm representative to complete formalities quickly for delivery of the machine at the earliest.

SATELLITE HOSPITALS: Issues related to satellite hospitals, associated with the King Edward Medical University (KEMU) and the Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU), will be resolved on a priority basis.

This was stated by Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department Secretary Najam Ahmad Shah while presiding over a meeting on Saturday.

The infirmaries included the Government Mian Munshi Hospital, Government Said Mitha Hospital, Government Nawaz Sharif Hospital, Yakki Gate, Government Khawaja Saeed Hospital, Government Shahdara Hospital and Government Mozang Hospital.

The secretary said a meeting would be held on the coming Thursday to review the matters related to the attached teaching hospitals of the KEMU and FJMU.

Mr Shah said the agenda for the next meeting should be prepared keeping in view the financial matters, visits of senior doctors to these hospitals and matters related to postgraduate residents (PGRs) training.
