Varsities group to identify steps against child beggary

LAHORE: A working group of five universities and a home department’s bureau has been tasked with probing reasons for child beggary and submitting remedial measures to the government in order to make children useful citizens of the country.

The group will study the issue in view of the statistics, socioeconomic issues, family environment etc. The group consists of the Punjab University, FC College, Virtual University, Lahore College for Women University, University of Management and Technology and the Child Protection Bureau.

“In the light of the terms of reference (ToR) issued by the respective provincial department, the students of statistics, social work/sociology and psychology should also be included in the group,” Lahore Commissioner Abdullah Khan Sumbal said while presiding over a meeting held here on Monday.

He said the government had assigned this task to all divisions, including Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sahiwal, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan and Bahawalpur.

He said the departments concerned in the districts were directed to render full cooperation to teams of the working group.

The meeting was attended by professors of the aforementioned varsities, additional district collectors (general), additional commissioner and some other officials concerned.

ADMISSIONS: The Punjab University has started admissions to various disciplines including BSc (Hons) BS, B.Ed, BBIT, BFA, B.Com, BBA, MA, M.Ed. MSc, TET, MPA, MBA, MFA, M.Com (3.5 year) MIM, MIOM and MBSM morning & self-supporting (afternoon/replica/evening) programmes for the academic year 2016-17.

The last date for submission of forms is Sept 28. Students can collect their admission forms from departments, institutions, colleges and centres concerned.
