Police probe theft attempt at Saylani’s
KARACHI: Police on Saturday registered a case against two suspected thieves for stealing Rs2.37 million from the Saylani Welfare Trust office near the Numaish traffic intersection and started investigation into the incident, said a police officer. Two thieves were arrested by Rangers on Friday morning.
The Soldier Bazaar police registered an FIR on complaint of an official of the Dubai Islamic Bank against the suspects identified as Mohammed Abdullah and Khaday Khan and their two absconding accomplices, said Soldier Bazaar SHO Irshad Soomro.
The officer said that the case of attempted theft was registered because the stolen money had been recovered when the paramilitary force chased the four suspects and arrested two of them and recovered the stolen electronic safe containing money, which the robbers were trying to take away.
The officer said the bank had set up a counter inside the Saylani office, where donations were being deposited to carry out welfare activities such as feeding and helping the poor and needy people.
The SHO said that the held suspects told the investigators that they used to carry out crimes in disguise of scavengers and beggars. The held suspects also ‘confessed’ to stealing car decks and other parts of the parked vehicles, the police added.
