Eight killed in Shangla, Dir road mishaps

SHANGLA: Four members of a family, including two women, were killed and seven others suffered injuries when their vehicle plunged into a ravine here at Kormang area on Thursday evening.

An official at Bisham police station said that a pickup vehicle was on its way from Kormang to Koz Kana when it overturned and fell in a ravine due to dilapidated condition of the road.

Those killed in the incident were identified as Ms Berange, Hussan Bibi, Akhter Hussain and Saeed Rehman. Local people retrieved the bodies and injured and took them to THQ hospital, Bisham. Later, some of the injured were shifted to Saidu Teaching Hospital, Swat.

Police said that the dead and injured were from the same family. After the postmortem the bodies were handed over to the relatives and sent to Koz Kana, Shahpur.

In Timergara, four people, including three women, were killed in a road mishap in Lower Dir on the third day of Eid on Thursday.

Police said that three women and a child were killed and four others injured when a land cruiser carrying them plunged into a deep ravine at Luman Banda in the limits of Khall police station.

They said that one Raham Said had taken his family for a picnic to the scenic spot at Sheen Ghar. On their way back to Khall Bar Kallay, Raham Said, who was driving the vehicle, stopped at Luqman Banda and got down to bring water for other members.

Soon the vehicle started moving back and fell into a ravine. As a result, wife of Raham Said, his son and two of his nieces were killed on the spot while four children sustained injuries.

The injured were taken to the DHQ hospital, Timergara, where condition of one of them was stated to be critical. The Khall police registered a case and have started investigation.
