Sub-engineers to agitate for post upgradation
PESHAWAR: The All Sub-Engineers Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has complained about the delay in the upgradation of the posts of its members and set one-month deadline for the provincial government to approve their service structure.
It warned sub-engineers would agitate if the demand wasn’t met within the deadline.
The warning was issued provincial president of the association Malik Bashir during a news conference here.
Accompanied by other association leaders, Malik Bashir said having a proper service structure was the basic right of government employees and that sub-engineers of the province had been demanding it for years, but to no avail. He said sub-engineers appointed to BPS-11 around 30 years ago continued to serve in the same grade.
The association’s president said employees of other departments including education, health, police and secretariat regularly got promotions and even constables could become superintendent of police but ironically, sub-engineers continued to work in old grades.
“We held many meetings with relevant officials on the matter but no one paid serious attention. The circumstances had forced us to move the court of law in 2010 for relief and that the relevant officials had assured the court that they had sent the summary to the chief minister for approval. However, the matter continues to be unresolved,” he said. Mr. Malik Bashir said around 850 sub-engineers working in different government departments of the province demanded upgradation of their posts to BPS-16.
