‘Punjab HEC addressing institutions’ issues’

LAHORE: The Punjab Higher Education Commission says it is promoting research culture and addressing basic issues of higher education institutions in the province.

“We are successfully pursuing our goals as PHEC is committed to meeting them through arranging seminars, workshops, and funding the travel of faculty in national and international conferences. To equip teachers with modern teaching methodologies and research skills, PHEC is engaged in various faculty development programmes,” PHEC Chairman Dr. Mohammad Nizamuddin said.

Talking to Dawn here on Saturday, he said given the nature of challenges being faced by the higher education institutions in the province the PHEC was focusing more on the capacity building programmes, aiming to enhance the standards and quality of research and academia in these institutions.

He said the PHEC had recently undertaken postgraduate training for university and college teachers. Besides, it had also trained more than 500 newly inducted college teachers.

“Currently, training of more than 700 principals of public sector colleges in Punjab is under way,” Dr. Nizam said, adding the PHEC had achieved many milestones in a relative short span of time.

Dr Nizam said: “PHEC is expecting to work in close collaboration with the federal HEC to achieve the common objectives for the promotion of higher education in Punjab.”
