Man dies as roof collapses

KARACHI: The roof a house in Liaquatabad collapsed on Monday leaving its owner dead and four others, including his son, injured when the former attempted to demolish its illegally built pillars.

Irshad Ishtiaq, 40, himself started demolishing pillars of his home with the help of labourers in view of an ongoing anti-encroachment operation, said Supermarket SHO Ejaz Lodhi.

The part of his house had been marked by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation staff during the anti-encroachment operation in Liaquatabad-4. The KMC officials razing illegal structures were some 12 houses away from Ishtiaq’s house when he started removing the encroachment on his own. As the pillars were weak, the roof collapsed leaving Ishtiaq dead and four others injured.
