ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has submitted a resolution seeking stoppage of salaries of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his ministers until salaries are paid to the employees of Pakistan Steel Mills and other corporations.

The resolution, submitted by MNA Asad Umar, is likely to be discussed in the first week of the next month as the president has already summoned sessions of the National Assembly on Sept 2 and of the Senate on Sept 5.

In his resolution, Mr Umar, who also heads the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Industries and Production, has expressed concern over the delay in payment of salaries to the employees of Steel Mills and other corporations and suggested that salaries of the PM and ministers should be stopped to ensure early payment of dues to the employees.

PTI chairman Imran Khan condemned the attack on his party’s leaders Faisal Vawda and Imran Ismail in Karachi and said the timing and context of the attack were extremely important as they were returning after submitting evidence to the National Accountability Bureau about revelations made in the Panama Papers.

“The armed attack on the PTI leaders at a time when the party is demanding a fair and thorough investigation into the Panama leaks is highly significant,” he said, adding that the attack appeared to be an attempt to terrify the PTI and its ranks to silence the most credible voice against rampant corruption and plunder of public wealth by the rulers.

The federal government, he alleged, had failed to protect the lives of not only innocent people in Karachi but also leaders of the opposition parties, especially the PTI, who under the Constitution were empowered to hold the rulers accountable.

Mr Khan said his party had always raised its voice against miscreants in Karachi who, at the behest of foreign forces, played havoc with the lives of innocent people and were responsible for bloodshed and unrest in the city.

He said the PTI was determined to stand up and challenge all those who wanted to destabilise the country either by creating unrest or weakening the nation through corruption and money laundering and refusing accountability.

Mr Khan said it was unfortunate to see the prime minister having been completely indifferent to the new wave of hate and terror in the aftermath of the most controversial speech by MQM chief Altaf Hussain as his muted response had caused disappointment among the masses and they found no reason to believe that the PM and his government had failed to protect integrity and sovereignty of the country.

Alleging that both the federal and provincial governments have failed to maintain law and order in Karachi, he asked Rangers to thoroughly investigate the attack on the PTI leaders and bring the culprits to justice as early as possible.
