MQM’s three women activists arrested over charges of attacking media houses

KARACHI: Police on Friday arrested three women workers of Muttahida Qaumi Movement over charges of their alleged involvement in arson attacks on private media houses located in Zainab Market on August 22, said a senior police officer.

Karachi-South Investigation SSP Adeel Hussain Chandio told Dawn that the police arrested Sumera from Burns Road, she was affiliated with the party’s sector there.

The officer added that two more suspects, identified as Rabia Bibi and Quratul Ain alias Ainee, were arrested from Defence area.

Rabia was joint secretary of MQM’s women wing while Ainee, who is Rabia’s daughter, was the local body’s councilor, said the SSP Investigation.

Violent protesters including women had attacked the ARY News office located in the Saddar area of the metropolis, which resulted in clash between police and the angry mob — killing one person and injuring several others.

Police later confirmed that "MQM workers pelted stones at police officials and the ARY office", adding that they also resorted to aerial firing outside the office.
