Mother thrashed for not resembling son in Lahore

LAHORE: A woman was beaten up and injured by a mob on suspicion of a kidnapper while she was going along with her own child in Shalimar area late on Sunday night.

Sadia of Bogiwal and her 10-year-old son Adil were on their way in a street when a family stopped them and started beating her for kidnapping the child who was in fact her son.

A large number of people gathered at the spot and started beating the woman. Later, both the woman and her son were taken to the police station where they were identified as mother and son.

Station House Officer Amin Butt said the woman had tried to sneak into the house to steal something and the family noticed her and captured her.

Quoting the family, he said the woman was having a 10-year-old boy with her whose complexion did not match with her and it raised suspicion that she might have kidnapped the boy. He said the woman was severely beaten and suffered injuries.

A family in the neighbourhood rescued the woman and took her to their house. The mob reached there as well and demanded the family to hand over the woman. They refused to give the custody of the woman and later handed her over to police.

The SHO said the woman refused to register a complaint against the mob.

This is not the first incident of mob taking law into hand. More than 25 people, including women, were beaten up on mere suspicion of kidnapping children. But all the people who were beaten up turned out to be innocent and had nothing to do with child kidnapping.

FOUND DEAD: A man was killed allegedly by his brother in Green Town.

Police said Sheikh Farooq, 50, a plumber by profession, and his younger brother Sheikh Rauf were living in the house where Farooq was found dead on Monday morning.

Police said some neighbours alerted them and they reached the spot, recovered the body and shifted it to morgue for autopsy.

Police said they also found 9mm pistol’s bullet empties and hammer from the crime scene. Police registered the murder case against Rauf on the complaint of victim’s father Rafiq.

SHO Idrees Qureshi said that initial investigation showed that both brothers exchanged harsh words over some issue at which Rauf attacked Farooq with hammer. He said the suspect had fled to unknown location.
