RAWALPINDI: Three doctors of a private hospital were booked in two separate cases on the suspicion of being members of a racket that stole patients kidneys.

However, no arrests have been made so far in connection with the two FIRs.

Mohammad Waris, a native of Sargodha, who is currently residing in Dhoke Juma and doing a business, in an FIR lodged with the Morgah police said he got his left arm damaged in a clash a few years ago and had been facing problems in his routine life.

He said three men from his native town - Azhar Mehmood, Allah Ditta and Ghulam Shabir - came to his residence and told him that they knew a senior doctor who could operate upon his arm to restore it to its original shape.

He said the three men then took him to Al-Syed Hospital in Morgah.

“I was introduced to a doctor who asked for some medical tests and later admitted me to the hospital for the operation on my arm.”

The complainant said he knew only after regaining consciousness that one of his kidneys had been stolen during the operation. The police registered an FIR and launched an investigation into the case.

The second FIR against the same hospital involving the same doctor along with two of his colleagues was registered on the complaint of Detective Foot Constable (DFC) Babar Ali. The constable said he had been assigned the task to keep a vigil on the hospital after the police received complaints that it was involved in an illegal kidney trade.

He said there had been reports that poor people were brought to the hospital where the three doctors stole their kidneys and threatened them of consequences in case they reported the matter to anyone.

When the station house officer (SHO) of Morgah, Malik Mohammad Kausar, was contacted, he confirmed to Dawn that two cases had been registered against the doctors.

He said action would be taken against the doctors after the police completed its investigation.
