Gujjar Nala clean-up continues

KARACHI: Anti-encroachment staffers of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) continued their operation on Friday to demolish and clean-up illegal structures from the Gujjar Nala so that in the event of heavy rains, there is no hindrance to rainwater draining into the sea.

A statement released by the KMC says that so far over 414 concrete houses and other structures including cattle pens have been demolished during the operation in which heavy machinery was used. A 5.5km portion of the 13-km long storm-water drain had been cleaned up so far between Café Piyala and Bangali Para, and around Niaz Manzil.

KMC Administrator Laeeq Ahmed has directed anti-encroachment staffers to demolish all illegal structures from other drains too so that people do not have to face any hardships in the event of rain.
