‘Plain-clothes men’ take away Pesh Imam in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: A prayer leader of a mosque in Wahdat Colony was picked up by personnel of a law enforcement agency in plain-clothes in the wee hours of Friday before Fajr prayers.

Abdul Rehman, who also sent a written statement to Dawn, told this correspondent over phone that unidentified men in plain-clothes took away his son Mufti Abdul Qadeer in mobile vans. He led prayer at Hassan Bin Ali mosque adjacent to Noor Masjid of Tableeghi Jamaat, he said.

He said that he approached Qasimabad police but they refused to register his FIR and only registered a report. He said his son had no links with any religious outfit.

He did know bank robbery suspect Fahad Memon who was killed in the July 22 police encounter in Bodhani area within the jurisdiction of Hatri police station but did not have any relationship with Fahad, he knew him only because he used to offer prayer at the mosque where he led prayers, he said.

Mr Rehman expressed the fear his son might be killed in a fake encounter.
