Give more time to Rangers: SCBA

LAHORE: The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has called upon the federal and Sindh governments to immediately grant extension of time in the special policing powers to the Rangers in the province.

In a statement issued here on Monday, SCBA President Barrister Syed Ali Zafar said the role of Rangers in improving the law and order situation in Karachi was an integral part of the National Action Plan and its continuation was imperative for the success of the war against terror.

He said the operation had proved to be successful and must continue till its logical end as this was the only way to successfully combat the elements involved in terrorism, targeted killings, kidnappings for ransom and extortion.

Mr Zafar stated that giving more time to the Rangers to complete their job was necessary to help both the police and the administration.

He said the recent recovery of Barrister Awais Ali Shah, son of the Sindh High Court chief justice, would not have been possible without the help of the Rangers and the army.

He expressed concern over the prevailing situation in the country and the reports that children were being routinely kidnapped.

Mr Zafar said the extension in the Rangers’ policing powers was inevitable and the delay in taking the decision would not only undo all the good work done in the past but would also cause great harm to the law and order situation.
