Protesters accuse MPs of ignoring road repair

SIALKOT: Locals protested against their elected representatives, blaming them for an inordinate delay in repair and reconstruction of main Daska-Pasrur road at Dheedowali village of Daska on Monday.

A large number of residents of surrounding villages, including women and children, gathered at the village to lodge a protest against delay in repair and reconstruction of the low-lying road that got submerged during rains.

Carrying banners and placards inscribed with their demands, the protesters raised slogans against the PML-N government and the parliamentarians who got elected from the area for ignoring the issue for “two decades”.

Some old women among the protesters were witnessed beating their chests to register their protest.

The protesters also displayed banners, ridiculing the local MPAs and MNAs by demanding “boats” so that they could travel on the submerged road.

A banner addressing Daska-based MNA Sahibzada Syed Iftikharul Hasan Shah asked for “waterproof vehicles” to cross the road that had been lying dilapidated for the last two decades.

They urged Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to ensure early reconstruction of the road in the larger public interest.
