Houses vacated by Afghans razed in Jamrud

LANDI KOTAL: The Khyber Agency political administration on Friday demolished at least 10 houses vacated by the unregistered Afghan families in Malagori area of Jamrud.

Officials said that notices were also served on another 35 Afghan families to leave the area till 6am on Saturday (today). They said all the houses vacated by unregistered Afghans would be bulldozed once vacated by their occupants.

At least 43 Afghans families left for Afghanistan via the Torkham border on Thursday after the expiry of a deadline they were given to leave the Malagori area and return to Afghanistan.

Officials in Jamrud told Dawn the demolition of houses vacated by Afghans was meant to discourage these families from resettling in the same area after some time.

They said a number of illegal Afghans had returned to different parts of Khyber Agency after they were expelled from their houses in recent past.
