Victims of Tarbela Dam accident compensated

SWABI: The family of each of the three Pakistani workers killed in the Tarbela Dam incident has been given over Rs500,000 as compensation by the Chinese construction company, sources said.

On July 3, three Pakistani workers were killed when shuttering structure of new power house of Tarbela Dam collapsed. However, it was not immediately known how much would be paid to the families of Chinese engineers who had lost their lives in the incident.

Sources in the company said that a team deputed by officials of Sinohydro, the Chinese company, was sent to Punjab to deliver the amount to the families of the victims.

When contacted, the officials said that it was not known when the construction activities on the new powerhouse would be resumed. However, they said that the situation was expected to be clear on Tuesday when workers of the site would report at the camp.

Meanwhile, it has been learnt that a six-member Chinese investigation team visited the Tarbela Dam fourth extension project site where the incident had occurred. Sources said that the team members had a detailed discussion with the senior officials of the company about different aspects of the incident.

ARRESTED: Police have arrested an alleged killer of his relative at Yar Husain.

SHO investigation Jawad Khan said that Said Wahab, a relative of the victim Mohammad Atif, was allegedly involved in his murder. They said that Mr Wahab had been held for interrogation.
