KARACHI: Two children die of burns

KARACHI, Nov 28: Two children died of burns when a vehicle carrying nine persons caught fire in Shershah on Friday.

Confirming the incident, Shershah police said that the vehicle Suzuki Hi-roof (CJ-0137) was going to Bihar Colony from Rasheedabad when the vehicle caught fire probably due to electrical short-circuiting and heat-up engine.

Jameela, 4, and Guddu, 2, who were sitting on the back seat suffered serious burns and died on the spot.

Lyari Fire Station Officer told Dawn that when the fire brigade officials reached the spot, bodies of the two children were lying on the back seat, and none of the injured or driver was present. The two bodies were taken to the Civil Hospital by Edhi ambulances from where they were shifted to Moosa Lane Edhi Centre, he added.

The injured persons had already been rushed to the Civil Hospital, where they were admitted for treatment. Out of seven injured, two persons were referred to the National Institute of Child Health.

The injured were identified as Samina, 30, Hameeda, 20, Hajra, 40, Mohammad Mubeen, 40, Maria, 9, Sumaira, 5, and driver Mohammad Arif, 40.

SUICIDES: Three persons committed suicide in separate incidents during the Eid holidays.

Police said that Mohammad Waqas Khan, 23, committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan in his house in Moosa Colony, Gulberg.

Police said the young man was jobless for the last many months. His body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for postmortem examination.

A 14-year-old boy committed suicide by hanging himself with ceiling fan in his house within the jurisdiction of Gulberg police. Police said that Mohsin committed suicide after his father had scolded him. His body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy.

On Friday, Wazir Khan, 60, committed suicide by silting his throat with a blade in his house in Gulbahar.

Quoting the statement of his relatives, police said that the victim was suffering from mental illness. His body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy.

BODY FOUND: An unidentified body was recovered from a yellow cab near Gulberg roundabout late Thursday night.

Police said that three armed men hijacked a yellow cab (PL- 0185) along with the driver from Nazimabad No.3 within the limits of Shamim Shaheed police post.

The suspect went to Noor-i-Islam Bakery and snatched cash at gunpoint from the bakery. The owner’s son, Burhaduddin Shaikh, who was sitting outside the bakery opened fire at the fleeing taxi. One of the suspects received bullet wound in the head. However, the armed men moved away and dropped the driver at Nazimabad No.7. Later, the taxi with a body inside it was found parked near Gulberg Chowrangi.
