Dawoodi Bohra community celebrates Eid

KARACHI: Hundreds of thousands of members of the Dawoodi Bohra Jamaat celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr here and in other parts of the country on Tuesday.

The Jamaat spokesman said the main congregation of Eid prayers was held in Tahiri Majid, Saddar, where Juzer Bhai Sahib, who belonged to the ‘royal family of Bohra community” led the prayers and read out Eid sermon.

“Other prayer congregations were also held in Hyderi, North Nazimabad, Kharadar, PECHS, Model Colony and a few other areas as well,” said the spokesman.

“As we all know about the yesterday’s [Monday] incident in Medina so special prayers were offered for the victims and unity of the Muslim Ummah as well as peace and prosperity for Pakistan.”

The Eid festivities conventionally were celebrated for three days, he said, adding that Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal with Sindh IG A.D. Khowaja visited Tahiri Majid later in the evening and offered Eid greetings to members of the community.

“The minister discussed different issues of mutual interests with the Bohra community leaders. He also informed the leaders of the Bohra community, which also represents a large segment of Karachi traders, about the security measure recently taken for better sense of security among business community and common Karachiite,” he added.
