Railways body to supervise club affairs

LAHORE: The Pakistan Railways has constituted an eight-member committee of its officers to supervise the affairs of the Royal Palm Golf and Country Club, six days after taking over the management and possession of the facility.

“Headed by Managing Director Zubair Shafi Ghauri of PR subsidiary -- Railway Estate Development and Marketing Company – the committee has started work,” a railway ministry official told Dawn on Wednesday.

“The golf course, restaurants, cinemas, marquees and other healthy activities would restart at the club soon after Eid,” said the official.

Comprising railways Chief Marketing Manager Abdul Hameed Razi, Legal Affairs Director Faheem Alam, Lahore Division’s Superintendent Waqar Ahmad Shahid, Deputy Superintendent Mahmood Ehsan, Division’s Commercial Officer Hamdan Nazeer, Mr Fahad and Salman Iqbal, the committee had also been in contact with most employees of the club hired by previous management.

“The PR is ready to retain all trained workers employed at the club, subject to submission of an affidavit that they would remain loyal to railways. Definitely, we would require the services of trained staff to maintain and operate the facilities,” said the official.
