Court rejects petition for case against Mufti Qavi

LAHORE: The district and sessions court on Saturday dismissed a petition seeking registration of a case against Mufti Abdul Qavi, suspended member the Ruet-i-Hilal Committee, for allegedly indulging in immoral activities with model and social media sensation Qandeel Baloch.

The court said the matter was out of its jurisdiction and the petitioner should approach the government for action against the cleric.

Advocate Mushtaq Ahmad Naeemi had filed the petition contending that Mufti Qavi hurt sentiments of Muslims. He said holding a prestigious post, people saw the cleric as a role model, but his selfies with Qandeel mocked Islamic values. The petitioner asked the court to order the police to register a criminal case against the cleric.

REMAND: An anti-terrorism court on Saturday extended for further five days physical remand of the mother, brother and brother in-law of teenager Zeenat Rafique, who was burnt alive by her family for marrying a man of her choice.

Factory Area police investigating officer produced Parveen Bibi, Anees and Zafar before the court. He requested the court to grant further remand of the suspects as investigation of the case was yet to be completed.

The court accepted the request and granted the police further five-day custody of the suspects.

According to prosecution, Zeenat was burnt alive by her mother, brother and brother in-law in her Mast Iqbal Road house for marrying of her own will.
