Seven killed in road accident

MUZAFFARABAD: At least seven people were killed and nine injured when a passenger wagon veered off the road and fell onto the riverbank on Friday, the police said, The vehicle was on its way from Panjkot to Muzaffaraad when it met the accident near the Devlian sheep farm, some 35 kilometres northeast of Muzaffarabad at about 12:45pm.

“The wagon hit the riverbed and half of it was in the water. Surprisingly, it was not swept away by the swollen river,” a police official told Dawn.

He said seven people, including the driver, were killed on the spot and the nine injured were taken to CMH Muzaffarabad.

The deceased were identified as Abdul Hameed, who was the driver, Nasir Iftikhar who was an army man, Ghulam Murtaza, Mohammad Javed, Mohammad Raqeeb, Jamdali and Noor Deen, all residents of Panjhkot area.

The injured were identified as Ghulam Hussain, Basit and his brother Hassan, Syed Waqas Gillani, Mushtaq Hussain Shah, Sadaqat Hussain Shah and an unidentified woman, who is said to be in critical condition.
