Bid to smuggle heroin foiled

RAWALPINDI: A British national of Pakistani origin travelling to Barcelona was off-loaded on Friday from a Qatar Airways flight by the Anti-Narcotics Force staff at Benazir Bhutto Airport after they received information that the man was carrying a large quantity of narcotics.

Surprisingly, the passenger had been cleared by the ANF staff at the airport counter prior to boarding the Qatar Airways flight QR-633.

During search, the ANF staff recovered 5.5kg of heroin skillfully wrapped around his waist, legs and chest.

Muhammad Naseem Khan who belonged to Hangu district was intended to travel for Barcelona via Doha.

The ANF said the passenger was a native of Hangu but settled in England. Preliminary investigation revealed that he was a frequent traveller and had been associated with British National Security Guard for the last 25 years.

The ANF staff arrested another passenger and recovered 1.04 kg of heroin concealed in the bottom of his shoes.

The ANF staff spotted the passenger acting suspiciously during check-in to PIA flight PK-749 for Paris.

The accused was arrested by the ANF and a case was registered against him.
