Retired brigadier, four others remanded

LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau on Friday obtained a nine-day physical remand of a retired brigadier and four others in Defence Canal Road’s Rs50 million misappropriation scam.

The NAB officials produced retired brigadier Muhammad Arif Khan, Atif Rasheed, Sohaib Arshad, Naseem Abbas and Ali Abbas before an accountability court.

The officials told the court that the suspects caused a loss to the national exchequer by fraudulently withdrawing Rs50m from funds of the Defence Canal Road project. They said physical custody of the suspects was required for interrogation.

The court accepted the request and allowed the bureau to keep custody of the suspects for nine days.
