Teachers’ countrywide protest after Eid

LAHORE: The Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association will hold a countrywide protest after Eid against the government for not reinstating 75 per cent rebate on income tax for teachers in the 2016-17 budget.

FAPUASA General-Secretary Prof Dr Mahboob Hussain, Punjab President Dr Sohail Aftab, Punjab University Academic Staff Association’s Prof Dr Sajid Rashid, Government College University’s ASA President Dr Riaz Ahmed said in a joint press statement here on Thursday that there were serious reservations and anger among teachers of universities that the government was not paying heed to their just demand.

They said the government had reduced the income tax rebate two years ago by 40pc, which was not acceptable to the teachers’ community.


Reinstatement of 75pc rebate on income tax sought


UET: A meeting of the Academic Council of University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, was held here on Thursday which was presided over by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid.

In the session, different academic affairs and recommendations sent by departments on various issues were discussed.

The meeting approved the establishment of an office for international students, new academic programmes, extension in completion of different research scholars and nomination of three persons for each board of faculty.
