Teachers protest FG, model school mergers

ISLAMABAD: Teachers working at educational institutions operating under the federal government on Monday protested against the Federal Directorate of Education’s (FDE) decision of merging four FG schools with model institutions.

Through a notification on May 6, FDE had merged four FG institutions with already over-crowded model schools though the directorate is yet to implement the notification.

According to the notification, Junior Model FG School in G-6/4 was merged with the Islamabad Model College for Boys (IMCB) G-6, the Junior Model School in F-6/3 was given to IMCB F-6, the Junior Model School in I-9/1 was handed over to IMCB I-10 and Junior Model School I-10 was placed under the administrative control of IMCG I-10.

Sources said in fear of a strong reaction from staff in FG schools, FDE had deferred the merger till summer vacations and that FDE and the model setup were not trying to get control of at least two of the institutions, the Junior Model Schools in G-16 and F-6.

However, the Federal Government Teachers Association on Monday protested against the move at Junior Model School in G-6, saying the merger was unjust to teachers.

“Instead of gaining control of our institutions, the government should provide the best facilities to all FG schools and the merger of a few schools with model schools is not the solution to the burden of admissions in the model set-up”, said Malik Ameer Khan, president of Federal Government Teacher Association.

He said that the “unnatural” merger will disturb teacher seniority.
