Two of a family killed in accident

CHAKWAL: Two members of a family were killed while four others injured in an accident on Islamabad-Lahore Motorway, police and Rescue 1122 sources said on Friday.

Abdul Aziz, 45, a resident of Lahore, was on his way to Islamabad with his family members in a car, which was being driven by his son Mohammad Talha, 25.

As they were passing by Balkassar Interchange, their vehicle rammed into a stationary trailer, which could not negotiate a sharp incline for being overloaded with cement bags and stopped in the middle of the road, investigating officer Malik Mohammad Sharif told Dawn.

As a result, Abdul Aziz and Abdul Rahim, 3, son of Talha, died on the spot while Talha, his mother Hifsa Aziz, wife Amina and daughter Khadija were injured, the IO said.

“The driver of the trailer managed to escape from the scene. We have registered a case against him and are trying to trace him,” the IO added.

Medical Superintendent of District Headquarters Hospital Dr. Ahsan Naveed Malik told Dawn that Hifsa’s condition was serious while the rest of injured were in stable condition.
