Drive against smoke-emitting vehicles from 31st

LAHORE: The Environment Protection Department (EPD) on Friday decided to launch a drive against the unfit and smoke-emitting vehicles, rickshaws and motorcycles in five mega cities of the province from May 31.

The cities where the drive will be launched are Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan and Gujranwala.

According to a spokesman for the EPD, the decision was taken in a meeting presided over by Punjab Minister for Environment Protection Zakia Shahnawaz. The meeting was told that the owners/operators of the two-stroke rickshaw in the abovementioned cities would be compelled to replace their vehicles with the four-stroke ones.

Similarly, entry of two-stroke motorcycle-rickshaws would also be banned in Lahore on Allama Iqbal Road and Ferozepur Road. The owners/drivers of all sorts of vehicles would also be punished for using normal or pressure horns within the urban areas.
