6,485 degrees awarded at 12th LCWU convocation

LAHORE: The 12th Convocation of the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) was held here on Wednesday.

Total 6,485 degrees were awarded to students of the LCWU and and allied institutions, including 22 of PhD, besides 125 gold medals.

Governor (Chancellor) Malik Rafique Rajwana gave away degrees and medals to the successful students.

On the occasion, LCWU Vice-Chancellor Prof Uzma Qurashi said importance of higher education for women could not be ruled out by a nation that wanted to progress.

“Women have to be prepared for contributing to the social and economic development of the country. The impact of higher education can be felt on the individual, national and international levels and the empowered young women leaving the campus today will become the leaders of tomorrow. They will contribute effectively towards the socio-economic development of Pakistan,” she said.

Prof Qurashi said the LCWU would strengthen its faculties and invest in the development of quality research.

“The university is establishing national and international collaborations with industry through Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialisation (ORIC). A dedicated team of the scientists, natural and social, trained in research are working in the varsity to provide research mentorship to develop future research scholars,” she added.

She said some 6,485 BS, MS, graduates and M.Phil, Ph.D scholars in different disciplines received their degrees.
