Edhi Centre escapes demolition in Thatta

THATTA: A group of civil society activists led by councillor Ghulam Mustafa Khusk, Mama Ishaque Khushk, Hamid Mughal and others on Wednesday posed stiff resistance to save the Edhi Centre, which has been delivering social services in this town for over three decades, for being demolished.

An official demolishing squad escorted by the local police tried to demolish the Edhi Centre after an influential figure of the area, Mumtaz Khatri, approached them with the claim that the land on which it was standing was owned by him.

However, the councillor along with a number of other people challenged his claim. They said the centre was providing meritorious social services to the people of Thatta which might discontinue if the centre was demolished.
