Student for inquiry into ‘missing’ roll number slip

SAHIWAL: The examination department of Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU), Multan failed to dispatch roll number slip and locate admission form of a female candidate who deposited triple fee for her masters Part II final exam seven months ago.

Rukhsana Inayat, a Pakistani national working in Dubai and currently visiting her hometown, wanted to know why she was not issued a roll no slip and if there were any discrepancies in her admission form why she was not informed about it before the exam. She has sought an explanation of the university’s alleged failure and discrepancy in their system.

The exam was held in Feb-Mar this year, but Rukhsana did not receive a single word from the university. Sources in the university confirmed to Dawn the roll no slip had gone missing.

Rukhsana is a resident of Scheme No 3 here, but is settled in Dubai for work. She passed her MA Part I Political Science exam under roll no 13065 with 348 marks in May-July 2013 with BZU registration no 2004-ZAM-2325.

Form, fee submitted to BZU in Oct 2015 for exam in Feb

Last winter, Rukhsana visited Pakistan and planned to appear in her MA Part II final exam. She submitted her admission form with Rs9,000 as triple fee at the relevant bank.

“I deposited the fee in Habib Bank, Kot Khadim Ali branch under Voucher No 0074955 on Oct 27, 2015,” she claimed.

The Kot Khadim Ali branch bank manager told Dawn they had not only transferred the fee to the BZU account, but also sent the application form to the university the same day they received it. This correspondent saw the bank’s dispatch documents.

Rukhsana said after depositing the fee she had flown back to Dubai and decided to return in February for the exam. “I did not receive any letter or roll no slip in January, which is when a candidate is supposed to receive it,” she added.

She claimed she contacted the university’s controller of examination and despite constant pursuance she did not get a satisfactory response.

“There was no correspondence of any kind from their end showing any discrepancy or objection to the admission by the university,” Rukhsana added.

She said she wrote a letter to the controller office in January but again there was no response. When she found out the exam had taken place, she suspected the university had lost her admission form.

She has now demanded a detailed inquiry into her lost form in a fresh complaint to the university, and that either her fee be returned or accommodated for the next exam. Rukhsana said it was her right to find out what happened to her admission form.

Examinations Controller Dr Mutahir did not respond to calls or messages despite repeated attempts.

Assistant Controller Muhammad Aslam said they could not help Rukhsana; it has been months since the exam was held and the result was also out. He further said they could not return her fee or adjust it for the next exam and she would have to submit a fresh application if she wished to sit next year’s examination.

About the complaint Rukhsana had sent them a week ago, he said they had received it but had no response to it.
