Azam Saigol made PIA chairman

KARACHI: The government has appointed a noted industrialist and a member of the board of directors of Pakistan International Airlines, Muhammad Azam Saigol, as chairman of the national flag carrier.

The position had been lying vacant since the previous chairman, Nasser Jaffer, resigned amid the controversy resulting from the countrywide strike by the airlines’ employees over the government’s reported privatisation plans.

The Oxford educated Mr Saigol is a well known industrialist of the country, and has a vast experience in handling big industrial concerns and corporations.

He has remained on PIA’s board of directors since 2013.

Mr Saigol is currently the chief executive of Kohinoor Industries and Kohinoor Power Company. He is also serving on the boards of Pak Elektron and Saritow Spinning Mills Ltd.
