Rabbani hopes CPA will play effective role

ISLAMABAD: Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani has said that Pakistan accords utmost importance to its ties with the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) and hopes it will play a more effective role in enhancing cooperation among parliaments of member countries.

He made these remarks during a meeting held with CPA Secretary General Akbar Khan at the Parliament House on Thursday.

He expressed the hope that the newly-elected secretary general would play his role in making the organisation more effective and promoting democratic practices.

The Senate in collaboration with the CPA is currently holding an international workshop of South East Asian Region to train parliamentary staff for better support facilities.

Resource persons from different countries, including Australia, UK, Zambia, Guyana and Sri Lanka, are attending the workshop.

Mr Khan said that Pakistan was an important member of the CPA and it had always played a constructive part at the forum.
