ISLAMABAD: A vice chancellor of a public sector university has received death threats from extortionist, claiming to be the members of Al-Qaeda, police told Dawn on Tuesday.

The Shahzad Town police have registered a case under PPC 506 and 387 in response to a complaint lodged by the university’s chief security officer.

According to the complainant, the vice chancellor received an email in which the sender introduced himself as member of Al-Qaeda and asked the VC they had already received his (VC) head money and asked him to pay $8,000 otherwise he would be killed.

When contacted, Shahzad Town police said they had referred the case to Federal Investigation Agency as cyber crime falls in their domain.
